What is Paper?

Paper is a high-performance build of the Minecraft server. It runs the same worlds and accepts the same players as the official vanilla server - no client mods needed - but with heavily optimised internals, so it stays smooth with more players and bigger farms.

Its other superpower is plugins: Paper runs the huge ecosystem of Bukkit/Spigot plugins - land claims, economies, minigames, permissions, anti-grief - all installed server-side, so your players just join and play.

Why host Paper with Crafty Servers?

It's our recommended default

Pick Paper on the create page and you're running in about a minute. No jar files, no version juggling.

Plugins without the hassle

Drop plugin .jar files into the plugins folder from the web file manager or SFTP, restart, done.

Runs on the free plan

A small survival or creative world with friends fits comfortably in the free tier's RAM.

Vanilla players welcome

Paper is fully compatible with the normal Minecraft client - nobody has to install anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is Paper compatible with the normal Minecraft client?

Yes. Paper is a server-side replacement - players connect with the regular, unmodified Minecraft: Java Edition client.

Can I install plugins on the free plan?

Yes - drop the plugin jars into the file manager or upload them over SFTP on any plan. Paid plans add the full Pterodactyl panel; the free plan's panel is more limited, but file access works on every tier. RAM is the practical limit - a long plugin list runs better with more memory.

What's the difference between Paper and Spigot?

Paper is a faster fork of Spigot that runs the same plugins. If a plugin says it supports Spigot or Bukkit, it almost certainly runs on Paper.
